The mission of the AVID program is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID provides an elective class with a curriculum focusing on writing, college and careers, strategies for success, and critical reading. AVID students are expected to maintain a C or better in all their classes, as well as display good citizenship, to remain in the program.

English Learners at San Benito High School are placed appropriately in English Language Arts and English Language Development (ELD) courses based on English proficiency level. The goal for all English Learners is to develop the language skills necessary to actively participate in all classes. We offer daily after school tutorial in room 175. As a part of a school-wide effort to further our focus on learning, a period of intervention and extension is built into our school day. This period, known as “Haybaler Support Time,” is designed to provide timely and specific support to students who are working towards mastery of essential learning or are ready to be challenged with learning beyond essential standard expectations.

During the first two weeks of school and on some Mondays, students attend a Schoolwide Lessons that are designed to support them in their journey as a Haybaler. 

On Mondays when there is no School Wide Lesson, all Tuesdays, all Wednesdays, and all Fridays, students attend a class, referred to as “HST.” These are based on a need identified by a staff member, or a need that meets the student’s identity.

The Migrant Education Program provides services to high school students as well as our Out of School Youth. These services provide our migrant youth information, guidance, and education affording them an opportunity to make better decisions and/or choices regarding their future.
